Trunk or Treats and Spooky Cars: When Hallowe'en Hits the Road

We found out the hard way (sooo much leftover candy) that kids in our neighbourhood don't trick or treat in our neighbourhood. I don't really know where they go - somewhere with more single family homes and fewer townhouse/condos maybe? But after some keen internet research, I am wondering if maybe they all go to a trunk or treat?

A trunk or treat is a family event usually held by a community centre, school or church. Folks gather in a community centre or school parking lot and pass out candy from their tricked-out trunks. You can pick a fun theme for your car (luau! Star Wars! NASCAR!) and decorate accordingly. It's a great way for the little ones to get together and get some candy in a safe environment and it gives the adults an excuse to dress up both themselves AND their car.

This kid and his dad decorated their car like the Disney movie Cars - very meta.

Danger: Falling Leaves

Leaves on Your Car

Last year, we wrote about Favourite Fall Road Trips and leaf peeping was front and centre. The fall foliage is stunning right now - the leaves seem lit from within and seeing the string of flaming red maple trees down our street makes me smile every morning. Gorgeous!

When we moved to our current home, it was a big adjustment for our beloved vehicle (we call her Chloe). Since we bought the vehicle, we'd had underground parking - but at our new place, Chloe is parked on the street. And while I am certainly enjoying the glow of the autumn leaves, I am also learning that fantastic fall foliage can pose a problem for vehicles parked outdoors.

We shared a little content from OSQAR in our "Slow Down and Save" post back in April but we thought that, in celebration of their 100th edition, we'd point out a few more OSQAR posts that may be of interest to you, our PumpTalk readers.

The Winter Tire Switch

The weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter and it’s time to start thinking about winter tires. Or at least that's what is on our mind at PumpTalk! In Canada, there is only one province that demands winter tires on all vehicles – and that is Quebec.

If you reside in Quebec, while it is not mandatory to have winter tires on your vehicle until December 15th, you should begin thinking about switching over your tires sooner rather than later. And, if you live in other provinces, that doesn't mean you don't need to think about winter tires at all.
